Psalm 23:1-6

God, my shepherd!
I don’t need a thing.
You have bedded me down in lush meadows,
You find me quiet pools to drink from.
True to Your word,
You let me catch my breath
and send me in the right direction.

Even when the way goes through
Death Valley,
I’m not afraid
when You walk at my side.
Your trusty shepherd’s crook
makes me feel secure.

You serve me a six course dinner
right in front of my enemies.
You revive my drooping head;
my cup brims with blessing.

Your beauty and love chase after me
every day of my life.
I’m back home in the house of God
for the rest of my life.

Psalm 119:1-24

You’re blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God.  You’re blessed when you follow his directions, doing your best to find him.  That’s right-you don’t go off on your own; you walk straight along the road he set.  You, God, prescribed the right way to live; now you expect us to live it.  Oh, that my steps might be steady, keeping to the course you set; Then I’d never have any regrets in comparing my life with your counsel.  I thank you for speaking straight from your heart; I learn the pattern of your righteous ways.  I’m going to do what you tell me to do; don’t ever walk off and leave me.

How can a young person live a clean life?  By carefully reading the map of your Word.  I’m single-minded in pursuit of you;  don’t let me miss the road signs you’ve posted.  I’ve banked your promises in the vault of my heart so I won’t sin myself bankrupt.  Be blessed, God;
train me in your ways of wise living.  I’ll transfer to my lips all the counsel that comes from your mouth; I delight far more in what you tell me about living than in gathering a pile of riches.  I ponder every morsel of wisdom from you, I attentively watch how you’ve done it.  I relish everything you’ve told me of life, I won’t forget a word of it. 

Be generous with me and I’ll live a full life;  not for a minute will I take my eyes off your road.  Open my eyes so I can see what you show me of your miracle-wonders.  I’m a stranger in these parts; give me clear directions.  My soul is starved and hungry, ravenous!- insatiable for your nourishing commands.  And those who think they know so much, ignoring everything you tell them-let them have it!  Don’t let them mock and humiliate me;  I’ve been careful to do just what you said.  While bad neighbors maliciously gossip about me, I’m absorbed in pondering your wise counsel.  Yes, your sayings on life are what give me delight; I listen to them as to good neighbors!

Psalm 8:1-9

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens. 

From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise

because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him,

the son of man that you care for him? 

You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings

and crowned him with glory and honor.

You made him ruler over the works of your hands;

you put everything under his feet:

all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field,

the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,

all that swim the paths of the seas. 

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! 

Sunday Scripture 9

sunday-scripture31.jpgNumbers 14:8-9  If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us.  9 Only do not rebel against the Lord.  And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will swallow them up.  Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us.  Do not be afraid of them. 

Joshua and Caleb spoke these words to the Israelites who had gone and explored Canaan and came back saying there was a vast amount of people living there who would overtake them.  What separated Joshua and Caleb from the rest of the group of explorers?  Faith.  The others had lost sight of all God had done for them, and didn’t trust that God would continue to take care of them.  Joshua and Caleb stood up to them in faith, or full confidence as my notes say, that God would protect them. 

He promises us a new earth.  Do you trust Him enough to stand up for Him, or will you forsake Him.  I pray that He is pleased with us, and He brings us into Heaven and the new earth, to live eternally in His presence.

Sunday Scripture 7

sunday-scripture31.jpg  2 Corinthians 6:2  For he says, ” In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.”  I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation. 

Paul is urging, can’t you feel it?  Christ is urging…

We had a great sermon today on baptism.  It was one of those powerful, God’s in the place and smiling, sermons.  There were 4 baptisms today, praise God!  What I wanted to highlight in this is, NOW IS THE TIME, NOW IS THE DAY.  NOW.  When is the time?  NOW!  If you’ve already given your life to Jesus, then recommit NOW to live the new life that Jesus died to give you.  If you haven’t made that commitment yet, NOW IS THE TIME.  Jesus is coming again, do it Now.  Don’t wait, He’s urging.  From this moment on, die to sin and live for Jesus.

Sunday Scripture 5

[sunday-scripture1.jpg]Since today is the beginning of Advent, I am choosing Isaiah 53:7 for my scripture.  It reads as follows.

He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth;

he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep fevore her shearers is silent,

so he did not open his mouth.

Adam and Eve lived in a perfect world.  It’s hard to imagine, isn’t it.  Anyway, it was perfect until they chose to sample from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.  In that instant, the perfect world became blemished with sin forever.  Adam and Eve’s eyes were opened, and they were ashamed, so they covered themselves with fig leaves.  God knew that they had sinned, and that they had to be covered in blood.  This is where the first animal sacrifice came in.  Adam and Eve were then covered with the skins from the animal, but God knew that there was a need for a permanent sacrifice.  That sacrifice would be Jesus.  Until that time, God commanded people to make animal sacrifices, or shedding of blood.  So now you know why the old testament contains so many sacrifices of animals, and why Jesus is called the Lamb of God.  The book of Leviticus is filled with rules for the different sacrifices which include the burnt offering, grain offering, fellowship offering, purification offering, and reparation offering.  And Jesus is referred to as the Lamb several times in the Bible.  Think and study on these things this season, and thank God for the sacrifice that was made to cover our sins.

1 Corinthians 1;5 – 9

For in him you have been enriched in evry way-in all your speaking and in all your knowledge-because our testimony about Christ was confirmed in you.  Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.   He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.  God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.

 

Paul was writing to the church in Corinth, and basically calling on them to be holy, and put their spiritual gifts to good use.  He called for them to change their attitude.  I find that I need Paul to remind me of this as well.  Sometimes it’s easy to get stuck in the mud, and spin your wheels, than to change your attitude and put your faith in God.  I encourage you to write this down, or make it your memory verse for the week.  Our God is faithful, and he saved us through his sacrifice of his only son.

Sunday Scripture 3

Sunday-Scripture

Today I chose Psalm 126:3
The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.
It’s very simple, and a great reminder. We do have so much to be thankful for, and it all starts with God. I just pray that in this week of Thanksgiving, you remember why you have what you do. Try not to focus on the things, and put your focus instead on God. Without Him, we have nothing!

Sunday Scripture 2

This is my second Sunday Scripture post, following after Amy.   Please check out her scripture as well!

I started this post a couple of hours ago, and a lot has changed since then.  Sometimes it seems like the walls are falling down around me, but God brought me back to this.  It is found in Philippians, and the lead in to these verses is Imitating Christ’s Humility.  Verfses 2 and 3 are my favorite, but I’ll lead you in with verse 1.  So Philippians 2:1-3 says this. 

1.  If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.  3.  Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 

To be humble means that we are conscious of our weaknesses and are quick to give credit to God and others for what we accomplish.  We are dependent on God, we NEED God, because we are sinful by nature, and we can do nothing without the help of God.  And sometimes other people can help us when they are humble.  The bible has a God-centered view, and we need to have that view also. 

Ok, I have to go on and finish this.  Philippians 2:4-11Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.  5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.  6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.  8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death- even death on a cross!  9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 

So let’s dissect that a little, because it is so good.  Jesus is our example, and we should put others first.  That’s what He did for us, isn’t it?  Our attitude should be the same.  Jesus was so humble that He left glory in heaven and made himself nothing, a servant, and was obedient to death for the sake of others.  For the sake of us, you and me.  He was made fully human, and had all the humanly temptations that we have, yet remained sinless.  He humbled himself and became obedient to death, even death on a cross!  For you and me.  He came to serve us, and He came to sacrifice for us.  I know I need to be more Christ like, and adjust my attitude to put others first, and be humble to the point of a servant.  I pray that God will lead me in this journey, and show me the way.
