Things I’m Enjoying

I’m linking up again with OhAmanda this week for a Top Ten List. There’s been a little sickness going around my house which has made my brain just a little bit fuzzy. I couldn’t come up with a new topic, so I’m just going to use what Amanda suggested. That’s why the title of this is strangely similar to hers. Forgive me for the fuzzy brain, and I will work in advance for next week’s topic.

These are in no particular order. That would require a clear brain as well.

10. I am enjoying my kids.

They are getting along, and it’s such a sweet thing! Last night, Brooke decided to make brownies with a peanut butter icing that she whipped up from scratch. (They should have a place on this list. So. Very. Good!) While she was doing this, the boys were sitting in the kitchen and they were talking to one another! Granted, they may have been silently begging for a taste of brownies, but I enjoyed listening to them.

9. Maraschino cherries.

I picked up a jar at the grocery thinking I would splurge and put a couple in my diet coke. When I put two in, they looked lonely. I ended up with six in the cup and it was so tasty. I also enjoy them in my water, and it adds a nice pink touch to it. I guess it makes me feel like a kid!

8. Basketball

Brooke is cheering on the Cougars and and Matthew is playing on the Louisville Cardinals team. This last weekend we had 5 basketball games, and I loved every minute of it!

7. My awesome church

Every Sunday God is in the house! I alternate between frantically taking notes and mesmerized and unmoving. I am fed with the Word, and encouraged to feed myself the rest of the week.

6. Siri

This is my first iPhone, and Siri just rocks! We left the basketball game Saturday night and we were starving. I promptly asked Siri for the number to Pizza King and she asked me if I wanted her to dial it. I didn’t even have to dial!

5.Bed Head Hair gel

Call me crazy, but I’ve been letting my hair grow out, and it’s been quite a while since my last trim. My hair is thick and naturally wavy, but I normally straighten it. The longer the hair gets, the more time it takes to straighten it. I’ve been lazy lately and just going with the waves.

4. Reading the Bible in 90 days

I’ve done this a few other times, and I get so much out of it every time. Every single time I am in God’s Word, He speaks to me.

3. Ecclesiastes

Solomon teaches that true satisfaction comes from knowing we are following God’s purpose for our life. It’s not found in things like money, knowledge, or popularity. That’s a great thing to read often.

2. Praying friends

I am so thankful for praying people in my life. I’ve used them a lot lately, and God is pressing me to write about it, but I’m not quite ready yet. Do you have people that you can call or text and know they will stop right then and pray? If not, contact me and I will be that person for you. It is such a blessing.

1. Prepping for Blissdom
I’ve never been to a blogging conference, but I won a free pass to Blissdom next month! I am so excited, and nervous at the same time. Is that even possible? Well, if not, then I’m more excited. Just a little bit nervous that I will be out of my comfort zone of being a total homebody. Slightly nervous about leaving my husband and kids at home for a few days too. Are you going??

The One Where I Ramble

It’s almost been a week since I last posted. I feel like there should be a meeting for me to attend, where I stand at a podium and make that confession. Sorry, I got sidetracked there. That’s my problem though. December. I get sidetracked a lot. There is too much going on, and I’m on the train most of the time. Going 100 miles an hour. And then other times I’m chasing the train. It’s still going 100 miles an hour.

Do you ever feel like that?

I hate it! There’s too much to do, too many places to go, extra money needed, and I still have the same resources.

I have to give myself a breather, and just pray. I’m not alone. I am not alone. Jesus is my guide. He doesn’t expect to be perfect. He knows I’m not, and He still loves me! And now, I feel better!

I’m on track with my 90 day bible readings. I had a little catch up to do over the weekend, but I’m back where I need to be. I cannot tell you how much I love it! It’s probably what is keeping me sane right now.

Saturday was Matthew’s first basketball game of the season. He’s in second grade, and they can steal the ball on passes now. That’s a big thing! It’s so much fun to watch him play, and he’s really improved since first grade. He towers over everyone, so he is the rebound king. I named him that, unofficially, of course. After his very early game we decided to eat at Bob Evans. A ten to fifteen minute wait turned into 45 because they crossed our name off the list as if they had seated us. When they discovered it, the manager suggested to the greeter that maybe we wanted to sit outside. We didn’t find that funny, but we continued to wait. What came available was two different seats, so Brooke and her boyfriend had a table all to themselves. They loved that!

The afternoon consisted of a Toxic Waste candy eating contest. It’s supposed to be the most sour of all candy, and the boys asked for it for Christmas. I know it wasn’t Christmas, but they couldn’t wait. And I couldn’t resist the temptation of seeing the puckered faces. In our opinion, they aren’t as sour at Warheads, but they are pretty sour. Matthew put three in his mouth at once, and I really wish we had recorded his reaction. It was hilarious! I had skin hanging from the roof of my mouth with the three pieces that I ate.

Sunday was the racing banquet for the boys. That needs to be a separate post, because I have so much to say about it. I’m so proud of both of them!

Monday I woke Matthew up and he complained of a sore throat. He had coughed all night, so I took his temp and he had a fever. The doctor sent him for a chest X-ray because his lungs sounded coarse, so we hung out at home for the day. They called us in the afternoon and told us the X-ray was negative, so it’s probably something viral. Also encouraged us to get the flu shot, because it’s already in Indiana. Ugh! Why does she insist on arguing with me every year about the flu shot? We’re not going to do it! Get that in your head.

So, now you’re caught up with my ramblings, I mean my weekend!

Speaking of a virus and cough, I took Nyquil about an hour ago, so I can’t guarantee that any of the above will make sense to you, because I can’t follow it. Good night all!

Yay Me!

I’m doing the happy dance right now because I have finally switched my blog over to my own domain and changed the theme. All by myself! Technically challenged me!

Myrtle Beach Bound!

I am so excited to be going somewhere for spring break this year, and with wonderful friends too!  It has been so long since we’ve been to a beach, gosh Zach was a baby.  It will be the first time that Matthew’s toes hit the sand, and the first time that Zach will remember it.  Brooke has purchased three new bikini’s that she looks utterly fabulous in, and I found nothing that I am happy with.  Of course, I’m not happy with my body either!  Thus, my diet has begun.  Not a great reason, but you ladies out there will understand, a great motivator!  We’ll see how it goes.

A GREAT RECIPE

A GREAT RECIPE

1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the

I received this in an email and it was too good to just delete.

My Monday

Brooke was sick and the doctor confirmed it was strep.  We went to Meijer because the antibiotic is free there, which I didn’t know.  It’s great that it’s free, but I’m pretty sure they put everyone else in front of you, because we were there for an hour.  It was crazy!  Smart on their part, because they more than made up for it with what I ended up spending to kill the time.

Monday night was the 3rd of our Obedience classes for our dog Logan.  I have to go back and tell you about last week before I can share this week though.  Brian decided that I was the one who couldn’t control the dog, so I went to classes alone last week.  Everything was going well, and I handled the Yogi fascination, was even told I had made a good correction.  Things got hairy when the trainer said we were going to walk the dogs around the inside of the building.  Now it’s a small building, and there are lots of dogs going to be in our space, so this made me a little nervous.  Maybe Logan picked up on that, because he was nervous and agitated too.  He was paying attention to all the other dogs and not me, and then he went after Yogo, and then Maddy too.  The trainer took him from me and she started walking him, but he didn’t like that either.  In the end it all worked out well, and the other trainer had him sitting on the floor in front of Yogi with no problems, but I was totally stressed out when I got home.  To make matters worse, Brian said it never would have happened if he had been there.  So I was upset again.

Logan and I did our homework and were felling pretty confident when it came time to go to class this Monday.  Brian and the boys were making fun of us, trying to get me nervous.  I just kept saying that we were gonna rock the class.  On the way to class I said a little prayer for a positive bonding experience.  After that I felt better, and walked into class full of confidence.  We walked right by Yogi without a hitch.  I’ll admit when the trainer began talking about us doing a lot of walking, my heart rate jumped up.  Just when I calmed myself down, the trainer came over and said she was going to walk Logan for a few laps to see how he was going to do.  After a couple of laps, she gave him back to me and said he was doing fine.  We walked and walked until she said halt, then we would stop and he would sit and get a treat.  Then we started walking again.  God helped us through that class.  With every step I took, I was singing.  Yes Lord, Yes Lord, Yes Yes Lord, Yes Lord, Yes Lord,Yes Yes Lord Amen!  He even learned the Down command.  We rocked the class.  It felt really good to know I could do that, and to come home and be happy instead of frazzled like I was last week.

Moral of the story, ask God to help you in anything and everything.  In my prayer I even said something like this, in the midst of everything going on in our country right now, and the election tomorrow, here I am praying for a dog, but I believe in You and Your power.

Growing Food

Tonight I’m using up the last of my green and serano peppers from the garden in a yummy smelling pepper steak.  I have a small sense of sadness that it’s turned cooler and my plants are dying.  There was a great sense of accomplishment when I was feeding my family good food that I had grown.

My parents have Persimmon trees, and I grew up on Persimmon pudding.  Saturday was so special when my mom had made one for us, and she was talking about not being able to pick them up.  Brooke and I decided to help her out, so we went outside and started picking them up.  Mom came out with a bucket, and said if we filled that up it was enough for 4 pudding.  We filled that up, and another, and then some.  I finally had to call it quits because I didn’t think I could bend down anymore.  I’d planned on my mom keeping some, but she sent us home with all of them.  Sunday and Monday we processed 23 cups of Persimmon pulp!  I can hardly wait to have me some pudding!!

Fall Break

Uneventful and blissful.  That was our fall break.  Thursday we enjoyed sleeping in, and it was a beautiful day outside too!  We went and picked out pumpkins, something that we used to do every year with granny and grampa.  Grampa would take us out to the orchard that he picked apples at, and we’d spend time in the pumpkin patch, then wander over to the blackberries and apple trees.  When we were done in the fields we’d head back up to the store for some apple cider.  With Grampa gone it’s just not the same.  Fun was had and pumpkins were picked, but it was a little sad.  God love Brooke, she was trying to soothe my tears and she said, “you know he’s in Heaven watching us right now!”.  She is so right!

I did learn about some pumpkins though.  Did you know there are pumpkins called Out too late?  Yep, they look like bloodshot eyes!  How about a warty pumpkin?  You guessed it, covered in warty looking things.  What about a Fairy tale pumpkin?  Well, just think of Cinderella’s carriage.  That’s what it reminds me of.  I picked one of those because it’s purple.  There’s also a peanut pumpkin that looks like it’s covered in peanut shells.  There’s my babies hanging out with the $50 pumpkins!  Brooke already had her hair up in a bun for dance.  She’ll not be happy with me for posting this picture!  Sorry Boo Bear, mommy loves you:)

On Friday it rained, so we went to see Beverly Hills Chihuahua.  The theater was a madhouse, poor planning on my part, apparently some High School Musical 3 came out.  Anyone heard of that?  Yeah, me either!  The first two showings were sold out, as was the first of our movie, so we bought tickets and went to the mall.  Zach got his halloween costume, Brooke got a Twilight T-shirt and poster, and Matthew drug us into Build A Bear for another buddy.  It’s a good thing I had the gift cards for the movies, because we spent our allowance at the mall.

The movie was very cute, especially since we have two little chihuahua’s.  It was refreshing to not cringe at any scenes or language.  All in all a very sweet movie about friendship, loyalty and promises.

Randomness

Brooke went back to school today and I’m scared to see the amount of makeup work she’ll have for missing 2 days.  I kept her isolated from the rest of the family and I think it worked.  So far no complaints from anyone else.  She auditions tonight for the Circle of Lights, so keep your fingers crossed.

Matthew has enjoyed the past two days that we’ve stayed in.  In fact, he hasn’t even put clothes on!

Tuesday when Zach came home from school and I asked him how his day was.  He said “nice”.  I was in shock.  He always says “good”.  When I tried to press further to see what the difference was, he retreated outside to ride his bike.  He’s a man of few words, just like his daddy.

He did come out of his 10 year old shell a couple of weeks ago.  My son asked a girl to go out with him, and he told me about it!  She said no, but it’s OK because all of his friends think he’s so cool for asking her.

I guess that’s about it, except for trying to house break a thirty pound puppy.  Any suggestions there would be great.  Oh, and if you’re gonna say just rip the carpet out, I already did that last week.  I put hardwood flooring down in the hallway all by myself!

Quick note

Just dropping by to say hey!  I appreciated all the responses to the powdered milk question, and I’ll let ya know how it goes.

We’re off to the race track tonight, and a different one tomorrow.  Looks like a crazy weekend for us.  Hope you have a good one!
