A David Song

Psalm 16:1-11

1-2  Keep me safe, O God,
I’ve run for dear life to You.
I say to GOD, “Be my Lord!”
Without You, nothing makes sense.

3  And these God-chosen lives all around-
what splendid friends they make!

4  Don’t just go shopping for a god.
Gods are not for sale.
I swear I’ll never treat god-names
like brand-names.

5-6  My choice is You, GOD, first and only.
And now I find I’m Your choice!
You set me up with a house and yard.
And then You made me Your heir!

7-8  The wise counsel God gives when I’m awake
is confirmed by my sleeping heart.
Day and night I’ll stick with God;
I’ve got a good thing going and I’m not letting go.

9-10  I’m happy from the inside out,
and from the outside in, I’m firmly formed.
You canceled my ticket to hell-
that’s not my destination!

11  Now You’ve got my feet on the life path,
all radiant from the shining of Your face.
Ever since You took my hand,
I’m on the right way.

A David Prayer

Psalm 17:1-15             1-2  Listen while I build my case, God,

the most honest prayer You’ll ever hear.

Show the world I’m innocent-

in Your heart You know I am.

3  Go ahead, examine me from inside out,

surprise me in the middle of the night-

You’ll find I’m just what I say I am.

My words don’t run loose.

4-5  I’m not trying to get my way

in the world’s way.

I’m trying to get your way,

Your Word’s way.

I’m staying on Your trail;

I’m putting one foot

in front of the other.

I’m not giving up.

6-7  I call to You, God, because I’m sure of an answer.

So- answer! bend Your ear! listen sharp!

Paint grace-graffiti on the fences;

take in Your frightened children who

are running from the neighborhood bullies

straight to You.

8-9  Keep Your eye on me;

hide me under Your cool wing feathers

From the wicked who are out to get me,

from mortal enemies closing in.

10-14  Their hearts are hard as nails,

their mouths blast hot air.

They are after me, nipping my heels,

determined to bring me down,

Lions ready to rip me apart,

young lions poised to pounce.

Up, GOD: beard them! break them!

By Your sword, free me from their clutches;

Barehanded, GOD, break these mortals,

these flat-earth people who can’t think beyond today.

I’d like to see their bellies

swollen with famine food,

the weeds they’ve sown

harvested and baked into famine bread,

with second helpings for their children

and crusts for their babies to chew on.

15  And me?  I plan on looking

You full in the face.  When I get up,

I’ll see Your full stature

and live heaven on earth.

Sunday Scripture

Psalm 119:1-24

You’re blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God.  You’re blessed when you follow his directions, doing your best to find him.  That’s right-you don’t go off on your own; you walk straight along the road he set.  You, God, prescribed the right way to live; now you expect us to live it.  Oh, that my steps might be steady, keeping to the course you set; Then I’d never have any regrets in comparing my life with your counsel.  I thank you for speaking straight from your heart; I learn the pattern of your righteous ways.  I’m going to do what you tell me to do; don’t ever walk off and leave me.

How can a young person live a clean life?  By carefully reading the map of your Word.  I’m single-minded in pursuit of you;  don’t let me miss the road signs you’ve posted.  I’ve banked your promises in the vault of my heart so I won’t sin myself bankrupt.  Be blessed, God;
train me in your ways of wise living.  I’ll transfer to my lips all the counsel that comes from your mouth; I delight far more in what you tell me about living than in gathering a pile of riches.  I ponder every morsel of wisdom from you, I attentively watch how you’ve done it.  I relish everything you’ve told me of life, I won’t forget a word of it.

Be generous with me and I’ll live a full life;  not for a minute will I take my eyes off your road.  Open my eyes so I can see what you show me of your miracle-wonders.  I’m a stranger in these parts; give me clear directions.  My soul is starved and hungry, ravenous!- insatiable for your nourishing commands.  And those who think they know so much, ignoring everything you tell them-let them have it!  Don’t let them mock and humiliate me;  I’ve been careful to do just what you said.  While bad neighbors maliciously gossip about me, I’m absorbed in pondering your wise counsel.  Yes, your sayings on life are what give me delight; I listen to them as to good neighbors!

Sunday Scripture 12

sunday-scripture32.jpg

Proverbs 16:1  To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the reply of the tongue.  2 All of a man’s ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the Lord.  3  Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

As Brooke and I head out to the first dance competition of the season, we always pray that she uses her talents to glorify God and witness to others the love of Jesus Christ.  I think that’s something we should all strive to do.  Have a blessed Sunday.

Sunday Scripture 11

sunday-scripture31.jpg

Psalm 8:1-9

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens.

From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise

because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him,

the son of man that you care for him?

You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings

and crowned him with glory and honor.

You made him ruler over the works of your hands;

you put everything under his feet:

all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field,

the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,

all that swim the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Sunday Scripture 10

sunday-scripture3.jpg

Today’s scripture comes from my 90 day bible reading schedule, 2 Chronicles 16:23.

“This is what Cyrus king of Persia says:

” ‘ the Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms

of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him

at Jerusalem in Judah.  Anyone of his people among you–

may the Lord his God be with him, and let him go up.’ “

Hasn’t He given us all the kingdoms of the earth?  I think we’re all missionaries for Him and His kingdom.  Go out and spread the love of Christ this week.  Share it with someone who doesn’t know Him!

Sunday Scripture 9

sunday-scripture31.jpgNumbers 14:8-9  If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us.  9 Only do not rebel against the Lord.  And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will swallow them up.  Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us.  Do not be afraid of them.

Joshua and Caleb spoke these words to the Israelites who had gone and explored Canaan and came back saying there was a vast amount of people living there who would overtake them.  What separated Joshua and Caleb from the rest of the group of explorers?  Faith.  The others had lost sight of all God had done for them, and didn’t trust that God would continue to take care of them.  Joshua and Caleb stood up to them in faith, or full confidence as my notes say, that God would protect them.

He promises us a new earth.  Do you trust Him enough to stand up for Him, or will you forsake Him.  I pray that He is pleased with us, and He brings us into Heaven and the new earth, to live eternally in His presence.

God Has a Plan

When you’re cast about by the storms of life,

when your days are filled with doubt and strife,

when nothing makes sense, when it’s hard to stand,

Remember this-God has a plan.

God has a plan, keep clinging to this,

forget your agenda and look to His.

He’s kept every promise he ever made.

He’s always on time, never early or late.

Time ticks by on a clock wound by Him,

and only He knows when time will end.

As you walk by faith, cling to His hand,

and remember this, God has a plan.

“We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

THE GIANT STEP IN THE WALK OF FAITH IS

THE ONE WE TAKE WHEN WE DECIDE GOD NO

LONGER IS A PART OF OUR LIVES.

HE IS OUR LIFE.

My Father, I acknowledge that you are the Lord Almighty.  You are the first and You are the last, and apart from You there is no other God.  Make me witness to the fact that there is no other Rock but You.  Enable me to say with full assurance, “I know not one”(Isa. 44:6,8).

You are my Lord, my Holy One, my Creator, my King.  You are the One who made a way through the sea, a path through mighty waters (Isa. 43:15-16).

You are the Lord my God.  I desire to love You, listen to Your voice, and hold fast to You, for You, Lord, are my life (Deut. 30:20).

This has been another reading from Beth Moore, Praying God’s Word Day by Day.

Sunday Scripture 8

sunday-scripture3.jpg

Genesis 45:7  But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.

This comes from my daily reading, and it’s Joseph talking to his brothers after they’ve been reunited.  (They tried to kill him, then sold him to slavery because they were jealous of their fathers affections for him.)  Now Joseph had every right to be upset with his brothers, and want to seek revenge against them.  But he doesn’t.  Instead, he sees that God used the wickedness of his brothers, and he carried out a plan to make Joseph great.  Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dream, and told him of the 7 years of abundance, followed by a 7 year famine.  God made Joseph ruler of all Egypt, so that he could save the very lives that tried to kill him.  That’s the kind of forgiveness that I’m working on this year!!!
