Mommy Tip

My friend Amanda hosts a Mommy Tip Tuesday, which I think is a wonderful idea.  Since everyone was sick, I’m just now getting around to posting.

My tip for today is to say yes.  Sometimes it seems like all I ever say is no, don’t do that, don’t touch that, not right now…   Ever feel like that too?  Please say yes, or I’ll feel like an even worse mom!!

Back from my panic attack.  I’m not saying give in to every little whim your kids might have, and go broke doing it.  I am saying to say yes to an ice cream even when it’s close to bedtime, say yes to playing outside even when it’s sprinkling rain, say yes to ordering dessert at a restaurant, say yes to your daughter having red highlights (ha ha!), say yes to a sugary soda every now and then.  I hope you get my point.  It doesn’t sound like a hard thing to do, but when you’re in the middle of a hard day, or at the end of a long, hard day, it’s easier sometimes to say no.  Try saying yes, and see the smile brighten their entire face!  It’s one of those moments that makes you feel like you’re the best!  So go on, live a little and say yes!

Works For Me Wednesday

We have a new Christian book store in town, and I’ve spent some time perusing the aisles.  I was actually glad to see a few chairs provided for people just like me!  I’ve been known to lose track of time in book stores while sitting on my knees checking out the bottom row of books.

I digress!  Anyway, I’m always looking for a good devotional or book to read to my kids that they can follow, and that tells the story of salvation.  Well, I’ve found it, and I’m gonna share it with you.  The Jesus Storybook Bible, written by Sally Lloyd-Jones is awesome!  The stories are short and factual, the photos are bright and vivid, and it is easy to follow.  It is for ages 4 to 8, but even my older kids love to hear the stories.  My 4 year old is enthralled by it, and wants me to read more and more.

This hardbound book by Zonderkidz is well worth the money, and it works for me when it comes to teaching my kids the story of Jesus.  Head on over to Rocks in my Dryer for more tips!

Works For Me Wednesday

I have a quick and easy smoothie recipe that your kids will love, and they’ll be getting fruits and veggies to boot!  It’s simple and delicious for breakfast, lunch, or a snack.  It’s also a great filler if you’re trying to watch your weight.  (I just keep watching mine go up!)

You’ll need Vanilla light Soy Milk-1 or 2 cups
Pure organic carrot juice-1 cup
One banana
Handful of blueberries
Handful of red grapes
One apple
2Tbs. ground flax seed
1 to 2 Tbs. cinnamon
1 Scoop Vanilla protein powder

Combine above ingredients in blender and blend to your desired consistency.  You can’t taste the carrot juice at all.  It’s filled with antioxidants that are good for you, and the cinnamon is supposed to be an appetite suppressant.  The apple gives you fiber, so don’t skip it.  It makes enough for breakfast and lunch, so I just usually keep the blender in the fridge for easier access.  I hope you enjoy it, it works for me!  For more WFMW tips, check out Rocks In My Dryer.

Mommy Tip Tuesday

My friend Amanda is hosting a Mommy Tip Tuesday.  She announced it last week and I thought it was such a great idea.  Of course, today I can’t think of a single good tip to pass along.  Today I don’t think I’ve made anyone happy.  Brooke said I was mean, and she thinks all I ever do is spend time with Zach and talk about racing.  Zach is mad, and let me know it by vocalizing his dislike for me asking Brooke how dance class was tonight.  He says all I ever do is talk to Brooke about dance!  Matthew is mad because I told him to STOP HITTING YOUR BROTHER, after he busted Zach’s lip.  They’re not lining up with the mom of the year award!

I guess my tip would be to laugh a lot, show affection with hugs and kisses, and pray without ceasing!  On days like today when I have everyone unhappy, God always gets me through.  Tomorrow will be better!  Head on over to The Stumbling Christian to participate.  I can use all the help I can get!

Rambling

Sometimes I just can’t think of a title.

Last week was spring break here, and it was cool and rainy.  While the boys were at the grandparents house, Brooke and I hung out.  The next day was her turn to sleep over at Grammie’s, so the boys and I watched The Game Plan and played games.  We had two days with dental appointments, and on Friday Zach and I went to the eye doctor to see about him getting contacts.  I was really surprised that his vision had gotten worse in 10 months, and with his glasses he was 20/40.  He did really well with the contacts, and in fact got them in on the third and second try.  Then he had to take one out, and put it back in, and his vision was tested again.  The new prescription made him 20/20.  It’s all pretty amazing to me to watch, but anyone who knows me understands what a weenie I am when it comes to eye drops.  It just gweebs me out!!  Now I’m watching my 9 year old son put these in his eyes like it’s nothing.  Something I didn’t expect was the samples that they had in the office.  They sent us home with them that day!  After that we came home and researched “mens” haircuts.  He decided on an Ashton Kutcher look and it turned out really nice.  I’m just so glad I can see his ears and forehead now!  Matthew got a buzz cut, not intentionally on my part.  I said a typical boys cut, and before I knew what was going on the clippers were on and a stripe of hair was gone.  Hopefully it will warm up soon so his head doesn’t freeze!

That doesn’t seem likely though, as the first race is scheduled for Saturday, and snow flurries are being predicted.  We went out to the track tonight to practice, and the 160 motor is junk.  I don’t even want to run it if we’re not going to be competitive, so we need to figure something out before Saturday.  We’ll see.

I have so much on my To Do list this week, and I know it’s not going to get checked off.  That really bugs me, but I still don’t see a way to get it all done.  So this post was pretty boring, but my life.  And I’m happy.  God Bless You!

Gift day

My Matthew keeps us laughing and on our toes!  My mom calls and asks for “Matthewisms” to share with her co-workers, so I thought I’d share this one.  My boys share a room, and this morning I went in to wake Zach up for school.  Matthew sat up in bed, pulled the covers over his head and proclaimed, “it’s gift day mommy, that means you give a gift to someone you think is special and that you love ’em.”  OOOHHH, that was my gift!  How sweet and precious he can be!  He also told me it meant you didn’t have to go anywhere, but that doesn’t work well with the siblings.  They don’t want to be stranded at school, so we had to break that rule.  He was OK with it since his gift from me was a piece of candy and some cool sidewalk chalk.

Mark it down on your calendars people, It’s sure to be a national holiday.  I think we could use it!

“Moore” Monday

OBEDIENCE TO GOD IN A DIFFICULT

SITUATION WILL ULTIMATELY BEAR

FRUIT; EVEN THOUGH IT MIGHT

IMMEDIATELY CAUSE HARDSHIP.

Lord God, according to Your word, if I wholeheartedly commit whatever I do to You, my plans will succeed (Prov. 16:3).  I acknowledge that the heart of committing any plan to You is seeking Your plan.

Show me the right path, Father!

Please help me not to merely listen to the Word, and so deceive myself.  Help me to do what it says (James 1:22).  Your Word works, but if I am to experience it personally, I must be obedient.  I need Your help, Lord.

When Your words come to me, help me to eat them.  Make them my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear Your name, Lord God Almighty (Jer. 15:16).  Increase my appetite for Your Word, my sufficiency!

Works for Me Wednesday

It’s repeat week over at Rocks In My Dryer, and since I don’t have many to choose from, I thought I’d share a new one.  My daughter swells up terribly when she gets a mosquito bite.  If it bites her on the cheek, you can pretty much bet that her eyes are gonna swell shut.  I’m always looking for something safe to spray or rub on, but with all the concern about DEET in the past few years, I’ve been worried about the choices.  We’ve got a lot of standing water around here, so the little buggers will surely be swarming.  A friend of mine told me to put some Listerine in a spray bottle and spray it around the area of the yard we plan to be in.  I mentioned it to another friend, and she said she’s done it and it actually killed the little guys!  So, Listerine is a frugal mosquito spray.  Who woulda thought that?

New Do’

I guess you could call me a hip and happenin’ mom.  I took Brooke to the salon today and she got highlites.  She has beautiful blonde hair, but she wanted red highlights.  Strawberry blonde as she called them.  The stylist was like, Oh, are you sure, because your hair is blonde and pretty.  I said if it were up to me, we’d lighten it up a bit, but do what Brooke wants.  I was in the back of the salon and couldn’t really see what was going on, and then she came back and chatted with me while our hair was in foil, and she was so, so excited.  When she came back, she was beautiful of course.  Jackie, the stylist, said the red will tone down after a few shampoos.  She also tried to accomodate both of us and put in some blonde streaks too.  It’s cute, and bright, and funky, and bright, and pink in spots, and bright red.  Trying to put a photo up for you to check it out. img_0470.jpg

Ok, this only took me more than an hour to put up.  I learned that I needed to optimize the photo to make it fit.  HAH!!!  I feel good now.  So with all that work, please comment for me?!
